Daylight Savings: Spring Forward Edition
That time of year is here again… Daylight Savings Time! On Sunday, March 9th, we’ll be setting the clocks forward an hour, but don’t worry—this is the easier time change, and you have a couple of options to help your little one adjust smoothly!
Option 1: Embrace the Later Schedule
Wake your child at 8 AM (which was their usual 7 AM) and shift to an 8–8 schedule. This works well for families who enjoy later summer nights and don’t mind a slightly later morning. Some families love adopting this new schedule as we head into the summer months and then switch back to 7-7 during the fall back time change.
Option 2: Gradual Adjustment to Stay on Track
If you want to keep your 7–7 routine, slowly transition over a few days:
Day 1: Wake at 7:30 AM & adjust naps/bedtime accordingly
Day 2: Wake at 7:15 AM & continue adjusting
Day 3: Wake at 7:00 AM & return to your normal schedule
Option 3: Do Nothing & Adopt the New 7am Right Away:
Wake your child up at their regular wake time and continue with your normal schedule. You may notice a little fussiness with being up an hour earlier before nap, but fresh air and engaging activities can help them make it to close to their regular nap time. You can always move nap up by 15 minutes if they are struggling to be awake.
Every child adapts differently, so choose what works best for your family! How are you feeling about the time change this year? If you are looking for support with adjusting to the upcoming time change, let’s connect!
